The ones you see on this page are the best ones you can buy to use in Britain and Ireland and the only ones we recommend as offering good value for money. You can buy products that are cheaper but we do not sell them for the simple reason that they never live up to the performance claims of the manufacturers. Many of the cheaper detectors have been designed for use in America or the Far East and do not perform well against UK Cameras; they do not give enough advance warning, or the number of false alarms is simply unacceptable. Radar detectors are completely legal (despite what you may have heard in the past they have never actually been illegal in the UK.) Radar detectors work by actively looking for the signal given off by radar cameras and laser guns. When they receive a signal they will alert you by bleeping and flashing. The length of the warning distance is the crucial factor and that is how you measure the quality of a unit. Another important factor is the level of false alarms received. Similar signals from some automatic door openers in towns can also cause alerts. As Radar detectors look for a live signal, there is no need to update the system like you do with a GPS Alert System so there is no hassle with internet downloads or ongoing subscription charges.
